Ofsted publishes its register four times a year, as at 31 March, 30 June, 31 August and 31 December, each a few months after the date. Your brief and workbook arrive within two working days of each release. The next covers the register to 31 August 2026 and is expected in November 2026. Between releases Ofsted publishes no new register, so your report stays as it is. Sources. Ofsted, Childcare providers and inspections: management information, registers and inspection data as at 31 December 2025 and 30 June 2026 (https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/childcare-providers-and-inspections-management-information), and the Companies House free company data file. NurseryWatch compares the two registers; the findings are ours, not Ofsted's. Who is named. Settings run by companies and charities are named, with the owner as Ofsted holds it and the Companies House number where it matches. Settings run by individuals are counted in every total and never appear as rows: in this release 269 openings, 486 closures and 246 places changes. Childminders and nannies are not covered. A company whose name may identify a person keeps its row with the owner shown as "[company name may identify a person]": 347 openings and 204 closures. Inspection triggers lists company- and charity-run settings only and leaves the other rows out (1,746). No telephone numbers or personal names appear anywhere. Companies House match. 878 of the 930 companies and charities on the Groups and new operators tab carry a Companies House number (94%). The Companies House match column says how sure we are: Confirmed when the name matches and the company's business activity is childcare, education or recreation, or its registered office shares the setting's postcode area; Name match only when only the name matches. Check a Name match only row before you rely on its company number. Company age, status and business activity are as Companies House held them on the day of our match run. Our rules. Weak report card: since 10 November 2025 Ofsted publishes a report card with six areas and no overall grade; we call it weak when at least one area is Needs attention or Urgent improvement, or safeguarding is Not met. Our rule, not Ofsted's; the Weak because column shows the area. Settings last inspected before 10 November 2025 still show their old overall grade. Handovers: Ofsted does not say why a setting closed or who took it over; where a new setting opened at a closed setting's postcode under a different owner, the closure's row names the new setting and its owner, marked corroborated when the name or the registered places match. Treat every handover as a candidate. Places: Ofsted records no places for many before and after-school clubs, which show 0; a change from 0 means places were recorded for the first time. The sample on the site. nurserywatch-brief-sample.pdf is the brief for ten local authorities (Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Kent, Essex, Oxfordshire, Birmingham, Sheffield, Leeds) with real figures and every setting and owner name removed. The report you request names them. Price. The first report is free for up to 10 local authorities you name. Then £495 a year (four reports), or £149 a report, for all of England every quarter.
